From April 10th and until September 7th, 2014, an exhibition come to discover "Cleopatra's Myth", which will be held in the Pinacothèque of Paris, 28 place de la Madeleine, accessible within 15 minutes via the underground 8 since the Hôtel du Nord et de l'Est (Place de la République).
A return on the Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator's legendary history, the last queen of Egypt member of the dynasty of Ptolemy. One time the mistress of Julius Caesar she will also be the woman of Marc-Antoine, master of cavalry, with whom she will have three children. Her tragic end and the mystery which surrounds him returned her fascinating history what inspired numerous artists and writers.
The doubts which glide around her history gave way to the imagination of the artists, sometimes described as a woman of power using its charms to reach her goals, or still as a heroine having preferred the death to the defeat. Numerous works will be produced around her myth from the XVIth century to XIXth century.
The exhibition divides in two parts : discover archaeological rooms of exception of Ptolemaic period and Ancient Rome (Pinacothèque 2), then paints, sculptures and costumes of movies illustrating the development of the myth in the art history (Pinacothèque 1).
